Groundwater Level Records

The groundwater levels in East Garston have been measured by volunteers for a number of years. There are three "dipping tubes" that are monitored at various points through the village. This chart depicts the variation over recent years. With thanks to past resident Mark Brock and resident Nigel Gay.

The Environment Agency also monitor groundwater levels at their Observation Bore Hole (OBH) at Upper Lambourn. The data from this bore hole is used by Thames Water to assess the sewage surcharge risk. You can see the data here

The Environment Agency gauges use a standard measurement of groundwater level above sea level, but our local EG readings are taken as the level of the groundwater below ground level as that is more immediately relevant to us. There is a relationship but way too complicated to explain here!!
