East Garston Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

Plans are underway by the Parish Council and East Garston Amenities for the events to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee in East Garston.

Here is the plan to date, keep watching this page to find more details as they develop.

We hope to decorate the village and everyone is encouraged to decorate their houses from the weekend of 28th/29th May.

  •  Thursday 2nd June - Lighting the Village Beacon

?There is a long and unbroken tradition in our country of celebrating Royal Jubilees, Weddings and Coronations with the lighting of beacons and on this day more than 2,022 beacons will be lit across the country, one of which will be ours in East Garston.

7pm - Social Club opens for pre-march refreshments

9.15pm - Gather at the bridge in the centre of the village (by PJS). March to the top of beacon hill, accompanied by the pipes & drums. (If you would like to attend the lighting of the beacon but are unable (or unwilling!) to march up the hill, then transport willl be available from 9.15pm at the middle bridge)

The highlight of the weekend will be the East Garston village picnic where it is hoped everyone with their families, will gather for a mass picnic in Jubilee Meadow. As is tradition there will be long tables, emblazoned in union jacks, balloons and bunting ready for all to display and eat their picnics. Everyone is encouraged to dress up (royal/jubilee/party/celebrating any era between 1952-2022) and at 1pm we will all gather for a village photo to commemorate the day. The Garston Gallopers will be on hand to entertain us and throughout the afternoon there will be fun and games as well as some enthusiastic community singing! For those that like a bit of competition there will be classes for baking & flower arrangements. Commemorative jubilee mugs will be given to all children in the village (under 18). Should the weather be inclement, the picnic will take place in the marquee – or we might just be British and carry on!
