Accessibility Statement
EAST GARSTON PARISH COUNCIL WEBSITE ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT
Introduction
The Parish Council is required by the Public Sector Bodies (Website and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (“the regulations”) to have a website that is accessible for all users and to ensure reasonable adjustments are made to websites so they are accessible to
people with various disabilities.
These include:
- Impaired vision
- Motor difficulties
- Cognitive impairments or learning disabilities
- Deafness or impaired hearing
This Parish Council is required under the above regulations to have Website Accessibility Statement. This statement has been compiled by a review of national guidelines and a sample of statements from similar bodies.
Website Accessibility Statement
Accessibility statement for the East Garston Parish Council website, www.eastgarston-pc.gov.uk
This website is owned by East Garston Parish Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
• change colours, contrast levels and fonts using built-in browser settings
• zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
• navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
• navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
• listen to most of the website using a screen reader like JAWS or NVDA
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
abilitynet.org.uk has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
East Garston Parish Council are a small public body and the website is managed by a volunteer with support from a web hosting company. Whilst our intent is to adhere to the requirements of the regulations, our ability to respond may be limited by the availability of resources or if it involves a disproportionate financial burden
How accessible is this website?
We know that some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- in some instances, you cannot skip to the main content when using a screen reader
- images that appear in carousel displays do not support alt text but the description box below those images does.
- East Garston Parish Council has a specific business need to use pdf documents and as such they are extensively used. When using the website these pdf documents are downloaded and read using Adobe Acrobat Reader and may be read by a screen reader. However, we do not also provide an html version, since creating html versions of each one would be an unnecessary burden.
We will continue to review the situation and where possible rectify these exceptions.
